(The night my waters broke part two)

If you haven't already read my article about "the night my waters broke" then please give it a read before continuing with this one.

This Story is a short one, but it's one that's very important to me. On the night my waters broke I faced lots difficulties and many of them alone. Although it was one of the best experiences of my life, it wasn't exactly as happy I had imagined it to be. But in the in few short moments before I left for the hospital, I was surrounded by the most important people (and dogs) in my life... My family. I felt cared for and protected, as if were a child. It was such a wonderful feeling, to say goodbye to everyone before I left.

Although this story may not be as substantial as some of my others, I felt it deserved to be documented separately, as it was such a beautiful moment. I hope you enjoy reading about it, as much as I enjoyed experiencing it.

Stepping out of the front door into the dark night was almost a novelty to me. Being so heavily pregnant, there wasn’t many occasions that called for me to go out late. I felt like a child, as excitement swirled in my stomach.

I was met with the smiling faces of my grandparents. My mother followed out the door behind me and in my grandparents car sat my dogs, who barked eagerly at the window. Looking back they were probably just confused, but at the time it felt like they too were saying good luck.

My Nan squeezed me tight and my Grandad offered lighted hearted humour. I was filled with childlike joy. I felt cradled, comforted and content as if I were a baby myself.

It was all a blur really. My case was chucked into the car and everyone dashed around, doing what I’m not entirely sure. But not me, I stood still. Frozen. A feeling of warmth sparked from within me.

In this moment time stood still.

So much responsibility had been dumped onto my shoulders in the last few weeks but in this moment I felt free, carried, supported.

With my family around me, I felt unbreakable.

I was leaving to become a new person, like a baby bird about to fly the nest.

Snuggling tight into my grandparents arms, I said my goodbyes. Their eyes were lit with golden charm, beaming with reflections of the street lights.

We separated and time began to move again. My grandparents in one car and my mother and I in another.

I turned to face my mum and she to me. It felt good that she was finally here. She smiled, that glorious, beautiful smile. I felt fuzzy and warm. That feeling of protection and comfort you feel from your parents as a child.

She started the engine. It was time to leave. We turned to the windscreen. Looked into the vast night. It was start of an adventure I’ll never forget.
